Child’s Disability Assistance Dog Criteria
- You are a permanent resident of Northern Ireland.
- NEEDS TO BE A FULL-TIME WHEELCHAIR USER – Needs be able to speak in order to give the dog commands.
- You have a secure back garden.
- A responsible adult at home all day. As Assistance Dogs can’t be left alone any longer than two hours.
- A parent or guardian must drive or have access to someone at all times that can drive you and the puppy.
- If in rented accommodation, your landlord has provided written consent for an Assistance Dog living on the premises.
- You have an outside area accessible by yourself, a minimum of 10 foot X 10 foot on ground level that can be allocated to use for the dogs toileting purposes.
- You are able to provide a means of feeding, giving water and grooming the dog.
- You have an individual who is capable of completing a minimum of forty minutes of exercise day with the dog.
- If successful , the identified handler, when required you would be able to attend the weekly ADNI Training.
- Your parent/guardian is able to provide access to a veterinary surgeon for routine preventative treatments and emergency treatment.
- Your parent/guardian are able to meet the financial costs of the up-keep of an Assistance Dog and they agree to undertake all determined costs such as annual insurance, insurance excess (should there be a claim), feeding, worming, flea treatment, annual vaccination including kennel cough, and replacement of equipment. - Your parent/guardian are able to identify two individuals that can support you which includes these individuals looking after the Assistance Dog should your parent/guardian fall ill/go on holidays or there is a family emergency.
Adult’s Disability Assistance Dog Criteria
- You are a permanent resident of Northern Ireland.
- Recipient needs to be a full-time wheel chair user – Needs be able to speak in order to give the dog commands
- You have a secure back garden.
- A responsible adult at home all day. As Assistance Dogs can’t be left alone any longer than two hours.
- If in rented accommodation, your landlord has provided written consent for an Assistance Dog living on the premises.
- That you drive or have access to someone at all times that can drive you and the puppy.
- You have an outside area accessible by yourself, a minimum of 10 foot X 10 foot on ground level that can be allocated to use for the dogs toileting purposes.
- You are able to provide a means of feeding, giving water and grooming the dog.
- You are capable of independently completing a minimum of forty minutes of exercise day with the dog.
- If successful , when required you would be able to attend the weekly ADNI Training.

- You have identified two individuals that can support you which includes them looking after the Assistance Dog should you fall ill/go on holidays or there is a family emergency.
It will always remain ADNI’s decision whether a dog can be placed with a family. As the welfare and well-being of our dogs is paramount
