ASSISTANCE DOGS NI QUIZ NIGHT

Give as you earn (GAYE)

Evolution

Give as you earn is a scheme that enables employees to donate to any UK charity straight from their gross salary (before tax is deducted), meaning that you can receive immediate tax relief.

Offering Match Giving is a popular and powerful way of encouraging employees to sign up to Payroll Giving.  Your company can make donations that match the contributions of your employees – potentially doubling the money that will help train more Assistance Dogs for children with autism and wheelchair users.

Employers

Assistance Dogs N.I. is very grateful to all those individuals who donate regularly through their payroll, and to the companies that have signed up to the payroll giving scheme.  Having regular donations coming in through GAYE gives the charity a better idea of future income, allowing the charity to plan our activities long term.

Joining a GAYE scheme costs the company nothing.  It is extremely cost effective and simple to engage employees and boost your staffs’ ethical credentials.  There are a number of organisations which facilitate GAYE, one of the largest is Charities Aid Foundation (CAF).  If enough of your employees join the GAYE scheme your company can even get a Payroll Giving Quality Mark to let the world know that you are a caring corporation.

For more information about signing up for GAYE visit www.gov.uk.

Employees

If your company, employer or personal pension provider runs a Payroll Giving scheme, you can donate directly from your wages or pension.  The deduction occurs before tax is deducted from your income.

The tax relief you get depends on the rate of tax you pay, for example if you are a lower rate tax payer and you donate 80 pence, the Charity will receive £1.00.

If your company offers Match Giving policy, the donation will double.  Some organisations may give a one-off gift to an employee’s chosen charity.

You can check if your company/employer runs a Payroll giving scheme by clicking on Charities Aid Foundation (CAF).  If your company is not already signed up, you can nominate your company/employer on the CAF website and they will do all the talking and approach your company/employer with details of the scheme.
